What We Believe
We believe that if we insist on God fitting within our intellectual understanding, then we have made God too small. We are seeking more than an intellectual concept by which we might “contain” God. At Baker First Presbyterian you’ll meet people who are in different places theologically and spiritually. We believe that this diversity and wide range of perspectives enhances our understanding.
We welcome doubts, questions, and long, deep conversations. Just as scripture is the story of God’s presence with people on so many different journeys, told through so many different voices and perspectives, we know that God is present in each person’s life and each of us will experience this differently.
We believe that all people are made in the image of God. We seek to deepen our relationship with God, with one another and with all people. Our faith is more than an intellectual assent to certain concepts, it’s a way of life. How we live into our faith and embody our witness is really important to us.
Our Mission
We believe in living out our faith through acts of kindness and generosity, living in such a way as to promote and support the well being and flourishing of all people. Our mission is to be a peaceful, loving, gracious presence in the world, to lift the oppressed, to bind the wounds of the injured, to feed the hungry, to welcome the stranger.

Our Vision
We envision this church being a warm, inviting presence to people of all faiths or no faith, a gathering place where people can form connections and find meaning and purpose. Within this context of community, we seek to create opportunities for each person to further their spiritual development and growth.
Our Values
We believe that God is the source and foundation of all things, and is still working in and through all of creation. Creation is God’s first scripture, embodying the word of God in all of its glorious diversity, beauty, and glory. God’s first command in scripture is to care for creation. The final command we see in scripture is to love one another as we have been loved. These two commandments invite us to see God’s glory in all things and all people.
At Baker First Pres you will meet people who have many different perspectives and understandings of who God is, and how God is working within our lives. We believe that holding space for these conversations is important and that these differing viewpoints help us go deeper in our own understanding.
We practice an open table. We recognize that the communion table is not our table, but is the table of Jesus Christ and all are welcome. It is not our place to judge who is worthy, it is our work to set the table and make sure the invitation is sent. We believe that God will meet each person in the place of their deepest need, and none of us are ever abandoned or alone in our life’s journey.
d flourishing of all people. Our mission is to be a peaceful, loving, gracious presence in the world, to lift the oppressed, to bind the wounds of the injured, to feed the hungry, to welcome the stranger.

All Are Welcome
We practice gracious, loving, and kind hospitality. This means more than simply saying, “all are welcome,” it means doing all that we can to ensure that those we have invited feel safe, seen, and truly welcome. We know that we will make mistakes sometimes, and get some things wrong, but we are committed to showing up with courage and humility for difficult conversations.
We believe that relationships are often the crucible through which we experience transformation and personal growth. It’s important to us to create opportunities for community connection and community service. We realize this will look different for each person.
When we say that “All are Welcome” we mean that we are doing our very best to help all people find a safe, hospitable place to experience God’s presence. We mean that you don’t have to leave part of yourself outside the door. We are not asking people to present a polished performance, but to enter wholly and completely into community as they are.
